Cyclone Alfred is set to impact southeast Queensland, prompting ferry services in Brisbane and Moreton Bay to be suspended for safety. The cyclone is expected to intensify to a Category 2 storm before making landfall between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast on Thursday night. Authorities have warned over 4 million people in Queensland and northern NSW to prepare for heavy rainfall (200-400mm), life-threatening flash floods, and wind gusts up to 120 km/h.

Residents in low-lying coastal areas are urged to take precautions, with supermarket shelves emptied and long queues for sandbags. Brisbane City Council’s sandbag stations experienced significant demand, with some running out of supplies. The storm may also bring high tides, hazardous surf, and dangerous swells.

Queensland Premier David Crisafulli has urged residents to make evacuation decisions soon, warning that the window for safe departure is closing. The Bureau of Meteorology has emphasized uncertainty in the cyclone's exact landfall location, with possibilities ranging from the Gold Coast to K'gari. Authorities continue to monitor the storm closely and advise residents to stay updated.
