How do you travel with Ozempic?

I’m getting ready for a trip and could really use some advice about traveling with Ozempic. Since it needs to be kept refrigerated, I’m trying to figure out how people manage this while on the go, especially during flights and layovers.

Have you ever traveled with it before? What kind of cooler or case did you use to keep it cold? Did you run into any trouble at airport security or with customs when flying internationally? I’m also wondering what to do if I’m staying somewhere that doesn’t have a fridge for a night or two.

If anyone has experience or tips, I’d really appreciate hearing how you handled it.

I’ve taken Ozempic on a couple of overseas trips and, with a bit of planning, it’s not as stressful as it first sounds. I pack the pens in a small insulated medication cooler that uses reusable gel packs. The brand isn’t crucial but pick one that keeps things between two and eight degrees C for at least eight hours. I freeze the gel packs the night before, place the pens inside the cooler right before leaving for the airport and then keep the whole kit in my carry-on so security can see it easily.

At the checkpoint I let the agent know I’m carrying temperature-sensitive prescription medicine, show the prescription label on the pen box and a quick doctor’s note, and they wave it through without fuss. During long layovers I ask a cafe or airline lounge to pop the gel packs in their freezer for a refresh, or I top up the cooler with ice from a bar. On the plane the cooler fits under the seat, and if the flight is really long I’ll ask a flight attendant to store a spare gel pack in the galley freezer.

If I’m staying somewhere without a fridge, I either book a cheap portable mini-fridge from a local pharmacy or keep the cooler topped up with fresh ice, which most hotels and hostels are happy to provide. Remember that once a pen has been in use it can stay at room temperature (up to thirty degrees C) for about eight weeks, so if things warm up a little you still have a decent safety margin. I also set a phone reminder to switch out gel packs every few hours so I don’t forget. With those tricks the pens have always stayed in range, and I haven’t had a single issue crossing borders or going through security.
